Tools you may be able to use to create textures for uploading to SL.
Ivory Tower Library of Prims (SLurl): self-paced in-world tutorial.
New Citizens Incorporated: amazing assortment of classes, free, ranging from basic (Building 1-Basics, New Resident Q&A) to specialized (prim jewelry, "Land Ownership- ADVANCED") to fun (Beach Party Q&A). Also, freebies, in-world publications, and tutorlals, as well as ads forlots of other areas.
Creating Your World: The Official Guide to Advanced Content Creation for Second Life (http://tinyurl.com/4d2ngm). This recent book is by several well-known SL residents including Aimee Weber, famous for (among many other things) being the first person to trademark her avatar.
