The (Unofficial) Second Life Wiki

"A project to document various aspects Second Life." The page on "Culture" (http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Culture) includes a bit of history and information on topics such as "government" ("in large part nonexistent, other than the 'dictatorship' of Linden Lab, the company that owns Second Life"), "arts and entertainment," "sports and recreation" and more.
"More Advice for Newbies," Not Possible IRL [In Real Life] blog: this post by 'Lem Skall' concentrates on "culture shock" and some of the norms of behavior in SL.
"Joining Second Life is like moving to a new country because it is a social place and it has its own culture. It has its own peculiarities and an etiquette that take time to learn and to understand. There are no common rules, but I'll attempt a personal view on what are some of the most important things to learn as a beginner in Second Life that are part of the culture...."

This article is a bit dated (for instance, gambling was still "legal" when it was written, and American Apparel has since closed its Second Life store) but gives some insight into the Second Life experience. Includes some "mature" (actually immature) behavior.
By the way, I've never heard anyone refer to "real life" as "meatspace" except sarcastically. Some people do prefer the term "First Life" to "real life," though.

Wikipedia has an extensive page on Second Life's history, culture, technology, and controversies and legal issues.
There are an astounding number of blogs and other web pages devoted to Second Life. Some good places to start are:
New World Notes
http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/
News blog by a former Linden Lab employee. Very active site, which not infrequently comments on legal and "governance" issues.
SLNN (Second Life News Network)
http://www.slnn.com/index.php
Articles and videos covering business, entertainment, events, and opinion. A recent highlight: Library celebrates second birthday, covering the April 13 celebration of the second anniversary of Alliance Library System's Info Archipelago project.
The Second Life Herald (currently possibly not safe for work)
http://www.secondlifeherald.com/
Not affiliated with Linden Lab. A long-standing blog and news site. Motto: "Always Fairly Unbalanced." Covers all aspects of SL -- as of this writing, the cover is probably NSFW (not safe for work).___________________________________________

Thank you for info about places to visit. I think it's really craetive how people have been setting up their spaces. I do think that some of the spaces could use more content though.
