0. check the System Requirements page to make sure your computer system will run Second Life.

1. Download the Second Life software at http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php
Versions are available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems.

2. Sign up for a Second Life account at http://www.secondlife.com
or:
(Recommended) Sign up through the New Media Consortium (NMC), which offers a very accessible orientation.

3. Launch "Second Life" by doubleclicking on program. The program's icon is a distinctive green "eye-in-hand" logo. The first time you start up the software and log in, you will find yourself wearing a generic avatar in an orientation/tutorial area.
